From 1901 to 1952, Boston hosted two major league teams: the Red Sox (also known as the Americans and Somersets) and the Braves. |
Modern fans know the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry as a one-sided affair, with New York having won 26 World Series titles while Boston suffered a drought from 1918 until 2004. But prior to 1921, the Red Sox were the more successful franchise, having won six of the first 18 American League pennants while New York finished no higher than second place. In a seven-year stretch (1912-1918), the Red Sox won four World Series titles behind stars Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper, Joe Wood, Babe Ruth, and Duffy Lewis |
